Tax compliance is easier when it is treated as a routine operating process rather than a collection of reminders at year end. The right calendar helps a business prepare records, approvals and cash before a filing is due.

Build the calendar around your registrations

Start by confirming the registrations and obligations that apply to the business. Depending on its activities, this may include VAT, tax deducted at source (TDS), income tax, customs or sector-specific reporting. The appropriate obligations depend on the entity, turnover, payroll arrangements and transactions—not every item applies to every business.

Make VAT and TDS part of the monthly close

For businesses that are registered or required to deduct tax, the information used for VAT and TDS filing should be prepared through the normal monthly close. Reconcile sales, purchases, tax codes, supplier payments and supporting documentation before preparing a return. Leaving this to the filing deadline makes errors much more likely.

Plan annual work before the final month

Annual income-tax returns and audit-related work usually require more than a final trial balance. Build a checklist for reconciliations, fixed assets, inventory, related-party balances, tax adjustments, supporting schedules and management approvals. Start early enough to resolve questions without compressing review time.

Give every deadline an owner and reviewer

The calendar should show the filing or payment, source records required, preparer, reviewer, approver and confirmation that it was submitted or paid. A reminder alone is not a control; ownership and evidence are what make it reliable.

Verify the current position before filing

Deadlines, forms, thresholds and portal processes can change. Before relying on any calendar, check current notices and guidance published by Nepal’s Inland Revenue Department and obtain advice for circumstances that are not routine. Keep copies of submitted returns, acknowledgements and payment evidence with the relevant period records.

A well-run tax calendar creates breathing room. It turns compliance from an interruption into a planned part of the finance cycle.
